The Retail Store Cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions quickly and accurately at the checkout counter. This entry-level role is the last touchpoint in the customer's in-store experience, making friendliness, efficiency, and accuracy essential.

Cashiers handle cash, credit card, and digital payments while answering customer questions about products, promotions, and store policies. The role also involves bagging purchases, processing returns, and keeping the checkout area organized.

No prior experience is needed. This role is well suited for candidates who are reliable, comfortable with basic math, and enjoy interacting with people throughout the day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-1 years of experience in cashiering, customer service, or retail preferred.
  • Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and making change.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with strong customer service instincts.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail when processing transactions and handling payments.
  • Flexible availability including weekends and holidays.
  • Responsibilities

  • Process customer purchases, returns, and exchanges using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Handle cash, credit card, debit card, and mobile payment transactions accurately.
  • Greet customers at checkout and provide a friendly, efficient experience.
  • Bag merchandise carefully and assist customers with carrying large purchases when needed.
  • Answer customer questions about products, pricing, promotions, and store policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized checkout area throughout the shift.
  • Count and balance the cash register drawer at the start and end of each shift.
  • Process loyalty program sign-ups and apply discounts and coupons as applicable.
  • Alert management to pricing discrepancies, suspected theft, or customer concerns.
