Restaurant host job description

The Restaurant Host is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences by warmly welcoming and seating guests in a timely and efficient manner. This role is pivotal in setting the tone for the dining experience, ensuring that guests feel valued and attended to from the moment they arrive. The Host coordinates with the restaurant team to optimize seating arrangements, manage reservations, and maintain a smooth flow of guests in the dining area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality or customer service training is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role, preferably within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests and staff.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using reservation and point-of-sale systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Positive attitude and a passion for delivering outstanding guest service.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival and guide them to their tables.
  • Manage reservations and waitlists using the restaurant's reservation system.
  • Coordinate with servers and kitchen staff to ensure tables are prepared for guests.
  • Communicate with guests to accommodate special requests or dietary needs.
  • Monitor dining room activity to anticipate guest needs and manage the seating flow.
  • Provide guests with menus and introduce daily specials or promotions.
  • Handle guest inquiries and resolve any seating-related issues promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host station and waiting area.
  • Assist with bussing tables and resetting them for new guests as needed.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a seamless dining experience.
