Medical assistant job description

The Medical Assistant supports physicians and healthcare providers with both clinical and administrative tasks. This entry-level role bridges the front office and the exam room — handling patient intake, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with basic clinical procedures.

Medical Assistants work in physician offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, and specialty practices. The role offers broad exposure to healthcare operations and is a common stepping stone toward nursing, physician assistant, or health administration careers.

Completion of a medical assisting program is preferred but not always required. Many employers provide on-the-job training for candidates who demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn.
